“Thanks for coming to this production meeting on short notice, everyone. I just had a great idea, and it couldn’t wait. Get ready: What if we took a pop culture phenomenon and put a colon and the words ‘The Musical’ after it? Now, I know you’re going to say, ‘Didn’t they do that with Spiderman: The Musical? And what about Shrek: The Musical? And I’m pretty sure Flashdance: The Musical is a thing too.’ And you’d be correct. I think we really walk in the footsteps of those pioneers who came up with such works as Ghost: The Musical, Carrie: The Musical, and Catch Me If You Can: The Musical. Now, we need to act quickly, folks, because I’ve heard that Rocky: The Musical is getting buzz, and Elf: The Musical is touring soon. Just thinking off the top of my head here: What if we took a classic movie like “The Sound of Music,” wrote some new songs, and released it as “The Sound of Music: The Musical”? Joe, call Kristin Chenoweth’s agent and see if she’s available to start rehearsing in October. Edgy is what I want, guys. I want your ideas on my desk by the end of the week.”
