Thanks for the seminar at Haberfield last night. Despite some tough characters in the audience the session was informative. An issue that faces small groups is the cost to qualify leaders, especially those who have been doing it for years as it is another cost to groups on top of increasing membership fees. Discussing this with a fellow leader who is also a Rotarian, he said that it may be possible that a training grant fund, particularly for smaller groups, could be considered by his Rotary to cover the $60 course fee of the first scout leader of a troop for mandatory SIS10 bush walking enabling groups to have one trained leader to continue with hiking from 1 Jan 15. His rotary group is North Hub but he is confident through contacts in other Rotary clubs and the organisations they work with that this could extend across South Met Region and beyond. It would be just for those attending the course and not RPL so that the course participants will also benefit from the networking with experienced leaders furthering their collaborative network. Watch this space and lets see if we can make it easier to continue scouting in this imposed qualification framework.
