Thanks so much to EVERYONE for the birthday wishes! Wow- so many memories with so many friends, students, neighbors, artists, family. Thank you all so much! I was at Cruces Basin wilderness: Co-directing a solo camping experience for 17 students. Soaring clouds and immense vistas. Vivid aspens, stately spruce. A joyful and inspiring landscape. Then it got chillier arnd chillier. Then darker and damper. October 9 dawned drizzly and cold as we gathered to hasten out of the wilderness. That was when we discovered the extremely, exceedingly, VERY flat tire on the van. Fortunately our undaunted team leapt to the challenge, despite having been given the wrong manual for the van. The tire was changed in the wet- meadow mud and we emerged from our adventure victorious and unscathed (though sopping, chilled and encrusted with wilderness mud). At lunch I was presented a flour-less chocolate cake with zebra-striped candles! A perfect day, ending with dinner at Marias in Santa Fe and the worlds best ice cream cake. Am I lucky? Thank you so much to everyone for your thoughts and wishes. LOL I am reminded of when, at age 6, my family was camping in western Maryland. I didnt like it much, and announced that I was NOT the outdoor type. Now, back to the easel.
