Thanks to Meghan Walker, Jamie Pitcavage, and Pam Chalk Trainer - TopicsExpress

Thanks to Meghan Walker, Jamie Pitcavage, and Pam Chalk Trainer for nominating me to name my ten most influential books. My list is chronological and somewhat embarrassing, but I had to name the books that have impacted me the most. Here goes: 1. The Poky Little Puppy by Janette Sebring Lowrey (When I was in 1st, the 7th grade safety accidentally knocked me over. The next day, she handed me this book in line with an apology card. It was so kind and unexpected. I cherished that book.) 2. Rage of Angels by Sidney Sheldon (This book was lying around my house in seventh grade. I picked it up and could not put it down. I finally understood the word page-turner. It was pure trash, and I loved every minute of it.) 3. The Talisman by Stephen King and Peter Straub (I loved the idea of two people writing a story together--and I loved the parallel universe.) 4. A Separate Peace by John Knowles (That jounce! I kept imagining me on that tree branch with various people I knew--and sometimes Id jounce that branch.) 5. To Kill a Mockingbird by Harper Lee (I read this while travelling Europe by train. It felt like Ms. Lee was sitting next to me sharing this riveting story.) 6. The Great Gatsby by F. Scott Fitzgerald (I re-read this in my late 20s after I had my heart broken a few times. I had my Daisies by then.) 7. Brief Interviews with Hideous Men by David Foster Wallace (The book has no interview questions--just answers. And weve all been hideous.) 8. The Road by Cormac McCarthy (Still haunts me, as I think about travelling the road now that I am the father of sons.) 9. The Tender Bar by JR Moehringer (A story of love and longing.) 10. Old School by Tobias Wollf (Who would even think about plagiarizing Hemingway?) I nominate Dutch Godshalk, Rich Alan, Ravi Jani, Kristen Trainer Dion, Lori Butler Dion, Joanne Trainer, Brad Fadem, Brad Herzlich, Clare Heffernan Orloff, Erin McDonnell Jannes, Joe McLane, Patti Day ,Kate Welsh Kopp, Christine Shamborsky
