Thanks to Victor Vorski for this interesting video. The author makes a good point against schools as learning environments. Here are my comments, but do read them only after you saw the video. The author makes really good points, and I only have minor critics. I am not convinced that hunter gatherers would really let someone stay without hunting forever because there is plenty of meat around. All societies have things in place against free riders, and hunter gatherers were no exception. Another thing I suspect is that his experience of that school is very particular. Even if it is true (and I do not doubt it) the culture that gets created in the school can have a tremendous effect. If all the schools were unschools like the one he describes, we would no doubt have a percentage of them in which kid to kid violence become the norm, and that gets transmitted to the new kids culturally. In the same way in which viceversa we have seen the video of the chimps that moved from a violence culture to a non violent culture. So it seem to me that it would require some really good democratic tools, (consent decision making, different from consensus would work well), but also a RESET button, for the cases when it goes bad.
