Thanks to all my friends and family for all the prayers and well wishes. It means a lot to Sonya and I. He passed this morning at 5:00 a.m. He served our country in the Korean War, him and my granny just celebrated their 59th wedding anniversary. He was a great father, grandfather, and great grandfather. Im positive him and my dad are together looking down on us smiling because theyre no longer suffering. Ill never forget the memories we had together. Anyone that really knows me knows that I spent all my summers in Ashland. My grandpa was a man of very few words, but he was without a doubt the most selfless man Ive ever seen or been around. My childhood is full of memories with him. Whether it was fishing, him riding me and my friends to the movies, or just dropping us off at the mall. Not one single time did he complain, get upset, or even grumble under his breath. He was what I call dependable. If he said hed be somewhere at a certain time he was there like clockwork. Wed sit on the couch together and watch boxing every Tuesday and Friday night without fail. He would point out little things that a kid couldnt possibly notice. Then he would show me what he was talking about and the mechanics involved in delivering that punch or throwing a punch from the ground up, along with the footwork that each skill involved. Love of the fight game is something Ill never lose. Thanks pappy. Remember how I said he is selfless? Well this sums up why I say that, and why not one person on earth could say a bad word or even have a bad thought about him. All the things I have said were from the viewpoint of a child. As I have become a man Ive realized what the word selfless means and how he is the definition of it. My uncle Daryl was hit by a truck when he was 9. He was in a coma for a long time. When he did wake up there was a new reality for everyone involved. He had and still has the mental capacity of a small child. My grandpa dedicated his life to giving Daryl a full life. They had a unbreakable routine and a bond that is beyond my comprehension. Every single night theyd leave at 8:00 and go to the dairy cheer so Daryl could play ms. Pacman(no one on earth could touch Daryl on that game by the way)Then It was on to the news stand or billiard hall depending what Daryl was in the mood for. Daryl is 53 now so that same routine has went on for 40 years+ without fail. He not one time complained out loud nor to himself I am willing to bet all I have on that. Rip Donald Ray Brown Sr. you will be greatly missed. So save me a spot on that grand fishing adventure you and dad are undoubtedly on. So until we meet again I love you .
