Thanks to everyone who joined our Pledge to Amend support call - TopicsExpress

Thanks to everyone who joined our Pledge to Amend support call last night. Here is the recording from the call: https://soundcloud/movetoamend/pledge-to-amend-support-call-aug-2014/s-1VJkh. Below are also the questions and answers that came up on the call. Based on the input and questions weve received so far weve decided a few additional things: How to find other PTA Groups and know which candidates have responded: There have been many questions about how you will know about other PTA organizers in your state, and how you will know which candidates are taking the pledge. To that end, we need every group participating in Pledge to Amend to complete this online survey by Noon Pacific on Tuesday, September 9. This will tell us who is doing the project, which we will use to make a map on the PTA web page so that everyone can see if there is a contact near them. We will also make a Google Document of the candidate pledges as they come in and we will share with yall so you can see if your candidates have responded. The full Candidate Pledge list will go live on the site by October 17. It will be organized by state and then district so people can easily find the candidates on their ballot. Move to Amend National will be sending the Candidate Pledge/Questionnaire to all Federal Candidates (House of Representatives and Senate candidates). It is clear that in some states there are many groups working and so to avoid these folks getting contacted multiple times it makes sense for us to do it, and also this way we will cover all the states, even if there isnt a local campaign. This will also allow for local folks to focus on Bird-Dogging and state and municipal races for the candidate pledge. We still strongly encourage you to bird-dog federal candidates and if youd like to coordinate with us to do the followup phone calls to your federal candidates reminding them to complete the Pledge, wed like to coordinate on that. Pledge to Amend Q & A How do we help persuade candidates that are worried that taking The Pledge to Amend will hurt their candidacy? Firstly, keep in mind that our role is not necessarily to convince candidates or try to compel them to take the pledge. We need to be careful about remembering that our job is not to engage in electioneering (helping candidates) but rather to educate and inform voters about where candidates stand. It is up to the candidates to do their own research if they dont understand or know about the issues were raising. Having said that, it might be helpful to share with candidates this polling data. How will we know who has taken the pledge? See above. How will we know who else is organizing around this? See above.
