Thanks to member James Arnott for sending in this review of the new album. So here it is 20 years since the last album and a lot of water has past under inspiral bridge. The two singles preceeding the album fix your smile and youre so good for me the latter is included on the album showed promise especially youre so good for me which on the first few listens to the album is still the stand out track. Monochrome kicks the album off and is a trademark inspirals song it bounces its catchy its synonymous of the sound loved by so many over the past quarter of a century. Spitfire continues in the same vain and was an obvious choice of single for the band. Youre so good for me is the stand out track its one song that would sit effortlessly amongst the vast back catalogue. It sounds like something from revenge of the goldfish or devil hopping. A to Z of my heart passes without leaving much of an impact. Calling out to you is a tremendous song a potential single as is the next song changes. Changes definitely nods its head to late 70s stranglers. Hey now is another stomping song that even managed to throw in the line 24 hours from tulsa plus a big sing along chorus. Our time is next and has a very 60s feel especially in the chorus a pleasant tune with a nice steady beat sounds a bit like the offspring of so far. Let you down is classic garage rock with Clint sounding very doorsy in his approach. An epic tune that the inspiral carpets gave historically always excelled in and this is one to the collection. Human shield is a very atmospheric track and at first might not seem like an obvious closer to the album but then the inspirals have never done conventional which was always part of the appeal. To review an album that you have loved for 25 years with a hint of objectivity in it is a difficult thing to do. Christ I ran from car when I seen the postie had been such was my excitement. If I had written this review on first listen it would have been lukewarm. But there are gems on this album that grow with every listen. It sounds like a band having care free fun playing and writing what they want to do. A must for all carpet heads. 8.5/10
