Thanks to residents of Beach, North Dakota for organizing and voicing their concerns about a development company’s plans for an oil loading railport just west of town: Zoning board member Tama Smith said she has problems with the railport’s proximity to the community, less than a half-mile at its closest point, and northwest in the flow of prevailing winds through town. “This is not a good site for the (people of Beach) who live here, who have children and grandchildren here,” she said. Bakken crude is very explosive and the oil is not just passing through, its stored there. A new foam truck doesnt mitigate that risk. What do we do if we have an explosion? We cant do anything but watch it burn, added resident Jerry DeMartin.
