That we bid a moment’s crossing, For a night and shadowy - TopicsExpress

That we bid a moment’s crossing, For a night and shadowy domain. A little one heeds and beckons nothing; Yet a light and a wandering flame. That the wandering light may eye up And may eye you with flames up to The flight of gallows and angels, Light and rapture and things of substance, And rob you up and drape you out upon thin clouds And take you for the sake of its seasonal heart. A little one asks and beckons new questions Yet without cause or need or effect does he list And without need nor object does he claim and Display his imaginations upon the willowy scape. And in vain does he pray now and whisper for grace, “Light please escape me, I cannot find my place,” “Oh light please escape me, I cannot find your grace.” That it should be that we bid a moment’s crossing, For one night. A shadowy domain do we linger in wondering, To rob the light of its brightness and cast all away Our tender notions of beautiful things.
