The 1% use their billions to influence legislators to write laws that favor the one per cent. The GOP continues to believe in trickle down economics. That philosophy has led to an ever increasing chasm between the haves and the have-nots. Cutting taxes that benefit the wealthiest leads to budget cuts that ultimately discriminate against the poor. My opponent refers to the poor as being able-bodied, as though they have the capability of working but dont, i.e. they must be lazy. That myopic stereotyping only deepens the chasm and increases the poverty rate. Want to diminish poverty? Expand Medicaid, increase the minimum wage, protect public education, and protect our societal safety nets.
