The 100-year celebration of The University of Texas at El Paso has been a great way to consider the history of the University and how the different decades helped shape UTEP. Department of History Chair Yolanda Chávez Leyva, Ph.D., had the idea to spotlight the Chicano civil rights movement of the 1970s and how it made its presence known on the UTEP campus. A group of UTEP graduate students under the guidance of Leyva, Director of Chicano Studies Dennis Bixler-Márquez, Ph.D.; and Claudia Rivers of UTEP Library’s Special Collections Department came up with “Viva La Causa: Forging UTEP’s 21st Century Demographic” as the latest Centennial exhibit now on display at the Centennial Museum and Welcome Center. The museum is open from 10 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Tuesday through Saturday. Viva La Causa will be on display through Aug. 2. Nice work, Miners.
