The 1998 Royal Rumble was the eleventh annual Royal Rumble event and the tenth annual event to be held exclusively on pay-per-view. It was presented by MCIs 1-800-COLLECT, and took place on January 18, 1998 at the San Jose Arena in San Jose, California. The event drew 18,542 fans and had a buy rate of 730,000. The results of the card read as follows: 1 - Vader defeated The Artist Formerly Known As Goldust (with Luna Vachon) (7:51) 2 - Max Mini, Mosaic and Nova defeated Battalion, El Torito and Tarantula with Sunny as the special guest referee (7:48) 3 - The Rock (c) defeated Ken Shamrock by disqualification to retain the WWF Intercontinental Championship (10:52) 4 - The Legion Of Doom (Hawk and Animal) defeated The New Age Outlaws (Road Dogg and Billy Gunn) (c) by disqualification and The New Age Outlaws retained the WWF Tag Team Championship (7:57) 5 - 1998 Royal Rumble (Stone Cold Steve Austin won by last eliminating The Rock) (55:25) 6 - Shawn Michaels (c) (with Triple H and Chyna) defeated The Undertaker in a casket match for the WWF Championship (22:23) Stone Cold Steve Austin became the third man to win two straight Royal Rumbles along with Shawn Michaels and Hulk Hogan.
