The 2014 season of the Indian Premier League , abbreviated as IPL 7 or Pepsi IPL 2014 , will be the seventh season of the IPL. The Mumbai Indians will be the defending champions, having won the 2013 season after defeating Chennai Super Kings in the Final. Unlike previous seasons, this seasons auction will be in Indian Rupees rather than United States dollars . So far, eight teams have been confirmed for this season, one fewer than 2013 after the withdrawal of the Pune Warriors India . There is a possibility for this season to be held outside of India to avoid adding to the existing security demands for the 2014 Lok Sabha Elections should its dates overlap with the tournament dates. A decision will be made after the announcement of the dates of the elections.
