The 24 Hour Starvation Ridge Race was bigger than life! The Dirty - TopicsExpress

The 24 Hour Starvation Ridge Race was bigger than life! The Dirty Girls all did a great job racing. Our gals ended up with 2nd, 3rd, 4th and 5th places: 2nd-Mari Puchalski Puglia, 3rd-Shalmarie Wilson, 4th-Kay Miller, and 5th-Jill Oliver. Deb Shiell and Tracy Jeffries had to stop racing due to injuries, and I DNFd due to an engine failure. Before the engine quit I was able to put 33 miles in with my KTM 350. The race track was epic with many technical components that required your full physical and mental capabilities. There were several of these features that were marked with an X. One of my favorites was a steep hill climb that once you arrived to the top needed to take an immediate left turn. If you came in too hot you could find yourself air bound down a hill and into a pond! The track went through an old farmhouse, a barn, through multiple whoops, mud, deep silt, rock gardens, up steep uphills and downhills, sharp turns with hidden exit turns, and long grassy fields stretches where some racers got up to speeds over 50+ (so you better stay out of there way!). The Dirty Girls all had a great time! We supported each other through thick and thin, even though we were individual Iron Woman racers and competing against each other! Now we are home nursing our sore tired bodies, with smiles on our faces happy to have been part of such an amazing experience! Many thanks to our support team: Bob Berglund, video photographer/pit specialist; Gregory Hilchey, chef; Mike Mason, pit specialist/sweep; Roy Puchalski, coach/racer/sweep/couldnt have done this race without this man; Alex Martens, The Heavyweights leader/pit support (tried to get my bike working again!); and lastly to my husband and best friend Dave Smith/Two Wolves Dual Sport Riders, who supported me through the endless preparation, encouraged me through race day jitters, was there for the entire team as pit/sweep support, and represented Wenatchee Motorsports as one of our race team sponsors.
