The ALICIA + JOAN Campaign for Classrooms Last week Alicia - TopicsExpress

The ALICIA + JOAN Campaign for Classrooms Last week Alicia Bushey made donations across DonorsChoose with this message: Honoring my grandmother who passed away at the age of 93 years young. Im making 93 donations to various DC projects in honor of her and her love for books, written words, wildlife, voting, heredity, sewing, and giving-just to name a few. Included in this lovely remembrance were several knitting and sewing projects, which Alicia found on the DonorsChoose site and donated to through the Costume Box ID. Alicia explained to me that her grandmother Joan (pronounced Jo-ann) taught her to sew and knit when she was a child. This led me to reflect on Joan’s role in Alicia’s life, and on the ways that skills, interests, and love for people and things in the world are passed from one generation to the next and the next. This also led me to reflect on Alicia’s wonderful role in the Costume Box throughout this year — from the Ohmy!lympics to the Autism Awareness Campaign in April to the recent Halloween 2014 Campaign, and many more occasions in between. So many classrooms have benefitted from her donations (and from prizes she won through the Costume Box fundraisers, as she shared them with other teachers). So it seems right that the year should end with a Costume Box campaign inspired by Alicia and Joan. To participate, simply donate at least $1 to any 2 projects on the Costume Box giving page before midnight on December 7th. All the participants will be entered in a drawing for a $93 donation from the Costume Box. To those who have already donated in November, thank you all — both for the donations and for bringing the total number of Costume Box donors to 500! How fun and amazing is that?! Your donations will count toward the Alicia + Joan campaign. And, again, thank you so much for your tremendous kindness!!
