The AP History Core Curriculum debates in Colorado and now Texas - TopicsExpress

The AP History Core Curriculum debates in Colorado and now Texas are completely flabbergasting to me. Dont we want a youth population that is aware of FACTS enough to make their own informed decisions? Do we really want to fill our childrens heads with half-truths for the sake of nationalism? Are we that insecure as a nation?? These are not elementary courses were discussing here - they are ADVANCED PLACEMENT courses in HISTORY - shouldnt these kids be intelligent enough to understand the complexities and volatile nature of nation building? That it consists of both honorable intentions and actions yet also grave mistakes and abuses of power? Isnt this an analogy of life? Of humanity? History is defined as the study of past events, particularly in human affairs, and should not be a continuation of a decades-long conservative revisionist propaganda designed to induce the mindless patriotism of our people. If you want that, take a Civics class. It is the American equivalent of Chinese college students being currently unaware of the historical events of Tiananmen Square. It besmirches our already poor education system and it disgusts my own sense of the importance of historical accuracy. For shame America. If you want to teach our children what a great country this is, dont withhold information - just stop making horrible decisions. #Ijustwishwewereallmoreintelligent #APhistory #rantover
