The Abdus Salam International Centre for Theoretical Physics ictp.it School on Earthquake and Tsunami Hazard and Risk 9 – 20 December 2013 Algiers, Algeria The Abdus Salam International Centre for Theoretical Physics and the Algerian Research Council(DGRSDT), are organizing a Winter School on Earthquake and Tsunami Hazard and Risk to be held from 9 to 20 December 2013 in Algiers, Algeria. The goal of this school is to build capacity in the theory of modern seismological and geodetic methods and give a basic understanding that underlies their applications to problems in Earthquake and Tsunami hazard assessment and computation. The school will tackle recent developments in seismic risk assessment and disaster management and learn from recent study case: the 2003 Boumerdes earthquake, the 2009 L’Aquila earthquake and the 2012 Emilia earthquake. The school is intended for graduate students, post doctoral fellows, and early career scientists interested in these fields. The school will inform, motivate and train its participants, through a series of lectures, seminars and practical exercises. Participants are encouraged to present their own research in dedicated poster sessions. Participation: Scientists and students from all countries which are members of the United Nations, UNESCO or IAEA may attend the workshop. As it will be conducted in English, participants should have an adequate working knowledge of that language. Although the main purpose of the Centre is to help research workers from developing countries, through a programme of training activities within a framework of international cooperation, a limited number of students and post-doctoral scientists from developed countries are also welcome to attend. As a rule, travel and subsistence expenses of the participants should be borne by the home institution. Every effort should be made by candidates to secure support for their fare (or at least half-fare). However, limited funds are available for some participants who are nationals of, and working in, North African countries, and who are not more than 45 years old. Such support is available only for those who attend the entire activity. There is no registration fee.
