The Ability to Discriminate I remember a conversation I had - TopicsExpress

The Ability to Discriminate I remember a conversation I had with a preterist friend. He would make fun of my dispensationalism all the time. One day I asked him, What is the future home of the believer. He said, Heaven, of course. I said, Then why did our Lord say the meek will inherit the EARTH? He said, Heaven and earth, its all the same. Its Jesus that makes it special. Theres no difference. I said, If heaven and earth are the same than what about your heaven and hell? (Note I said YOUR!) He said, Oh, those are different. As you might guess, this friend of mine didnt know the gospel of grace. He blended the message to Israel about entrance into the kingdom of the heavens with passages in Romans – as a result, he had a works based gospel! He blended every Scripture without discrimination. Try doing that with the ingredients in your pantry when you make a cake! What was the result of this lack of discrimination? This man never once bragged about the accomplishments of Jesus Christ on the cross. He never bragged about the death, burial, and resurrection of Christ. To my friend, the work of Christ was simply a good start. Now WE are supposed to build the kingdom. With His help of course. And, as you can imagine, he was church-going, ceremonial, and loved creeds and repetitive songs. Yeah, a protestant clergyman too with a Halloween costume on - collar and all. Oh Baal hear us! Correctly cutting the Word of Truth isnt just a matter of minor doctrinal interpretation. Its essential. If you dont correctly cut the Word of Truth, you will eventually come to a passage of Scripture that you will either ignore or modify. Let me repeat: If you dont correctly cut the Word of Truth, you will eventually come to a passage of Scripture that you will either ignore or modify. Example 1: Heaven and earth are the same. So, Philippians 3:20 is the exact same things as Matthew 5:5. Example 2: Matthew 3:7-12 is the exact same thing as Romans 3:21-26 and Romans 4:1-5. If heaven and earth are the same, as my friend says, then the Bible is a bunch of fairy tales and we shouldnt waste our time with it. But the Scriptures arent fairy tales. They are written with purpose and precision. THEY ARE WRITTEN WITH DISCRIMINATION. Correctly cutting the Word of Truth isnt a minor thing: the character of God is at stake. Learn this principle! The closer you draw near to God through the correctly cut and correctly translated Scriptures the less religious and ceremonial you will be. Dan Sheridan
