The African National Congress wishes Orlando Pirates Football Club well as they prepare for the first round in the mission to wrestle the prestigious and coveted title of African Champions from the current title holders, Al-Ahly, at the Orlando Stadium this Saturday. In their quest for the 2nd Continental Champs Star, Orlando Pirates carries the hopes and aspirations of South Africa and we have no doubt they will continue to represent us well as they have been doing in the tournament thus far. From the rookies to the tried and tested in the squad, all the team members have already proven themselves as worthy champions in this competition. Throughout the tournament, Orlando Pirates has been a living embodiment of determination, tenacity and resolve. Despite, at times, gruelling continental and local league pressures, the team has remained steadfast and resolute; proudly flying the South African flag. It has been more than a decade since South Africa was last represented in the final of the CAF Champions League by Mamelodi Sundowns Football Club. Without a doubt, it is time to bring the glory home once again. Together, we have come from far for the honour to compete on an equal footing with the best on the continent and the world in all areas of human endeavour. Let all South Africans, once more, stand united behind one of our own and celebrate our common nationhood as we battle the legendary 7 times African Champions this weekend and in the final round.
