The Allen clan celebrating my Dad’s Birthday Centennial- he’d be 100 years old this month! It’s fitting that this year we have lived in both the state of his birth (IL) and the state he loved (CA). Melvin Allen was born in Berwyn, IL in September of 1913 and graduated to a better place in July of 1991. It’s hard to believe he has been gone over 22 years. I still value every moment I had with my best friend. My biggest regret is that he did not live to meet my beautiful wife and awesome kids- although the cool thing is that Benjamin has his charm and Audrey has his spunk! I will never forget the lessons and values he instilled in us: An Eternal perspective on life, The value of Grace and Mercy, Rooting for the underdog, Putting others before yourself- especially those less fortunate than us, The importance of encouragement, The impact and price of negativity, A love of all people- regardless of their race, gender, ideology, or beliefs, The value of authentic friendship, The importance of Liberty and doing things right, How to love your wife, family, and friends- regardless of the whirlwind of chaos you might find yourself in. So far, it’s been a good month. A good time to reflect, take stock, and celebrate the life of a great man.
