The American Soldier. He and She has taken an oath to defend our Nations freedom. They are highly skilled at what they do. They place their lives in harms way, never sure if they will return home alive. They leave their families behind and give up the pleasures of life. They witness things that may haunt them for the rest of their lives. The Soldier, the Grunt, the Ground Pounders. Walk in their boots and you will understand what makes them do what they do. As a Vietnam Combat NCO, I still hear the sounds coming from the hamlets, smell the wood from the women cooking, the smell of the rice paddies, the leeches, the snakes, the elephant grass, the spider holes, giant insects, monsoon rains, apes, tigers, mud and quick sand, heat, drinking dirty water, no baths, ambushes and fire fights, holding the hands of a wounded soldier, praying to survive and feeling a bit guilty for taking a life. The Soldiers. The Nations Defenders. Its a Brotherhood.
