The Anguilla National Trust invites its members and the general public to take part in a clean-up activity of Forest Bay beach on Saturday 28 September to commemorate International Coastal Cleanup Day 2013. Organised internationally by the Ocean Conservancy, volunteers around the world not only clean up the trash that litters our coastline, but also document what is found by tallying each pick of trash that is picked up. In 2012, the top ten items that were picked up around the world’s shores were: over 2.1 million cigarettes; over one million plastic bottles and plastic bags; bottle caps and lids; plastic cups, plates and utensils; plastic straws; glass bottles; aluminium cans; and almost 300,000 paper bags. The 2013 activity will take place from 3.00pm to 5.00pm. We will meet at Forest Bay beach next to the beach hut. Gloves, snacks, and water will be provided. Please register with the Anguilla National Trust by calling 497 5297. Please note that the activity will be rescheduled in case of rain.
