The Annual Celebration of the Shariff Kabunsuan Festival in Cotabato City kicked off with the formal opening of the Barangay Fiesta sa Plaza, a food and trade fair participated by the different barangays in the city. Unlike the previous trade fairs conducted by the city, visitors can see nipa huts instead of the usual stalls. Each hut showcases the various products of the barangays that are ready to be sold to the public. The Kalanganan Cluster displays their seafood products like crabs, prawns, and bangus. Other barangays display flowers, muslim delicacies, inaul products and many other locally made food and souvenirs. The Barangay Fiesta sa Plaza will run until January 6, 2015. Meanwhile, other activities have also been lined up for the Shariff Kabunsuan Festival. These include the HARANA Group and Solo Singing Competition, Kulintangan Competition, Culinary Competition, Kuyog Streetdancing, and the Re-enactment of the arrival of Shariff Kabunsuan in Mindanao. With the theme, Treasuring the Past, Living in the Present and Looking Forward to a Better Future, this years celebration highlights the activities that can help us relive our cultural histories in a simple but memorable way.
