The Art of Standing Up for yourself. Weve all experienced it. A - TopicsExpress

The Art of Standing Up for yourself. Weve all experienced it. A friend, a colleague, or stranger has aimed an unexpected verbal zinger right at you and youre left in stupor, unable to form feelings and a response about what just happened. 5 mins later, 5 hours later, 5 days later...were still thinking of things to say as if were still in the moment. The Art of Standing Up for yourself is fading in our society. Instead, I see a trend that celebrates victimhood, and celebrates the path to lawsuits, calling ones superiors, or even the police in non-criminal situations. I often wonder why people wallow in this mess and dont deal with it there and in the now. I think they havent had enough practice. The Art of Standing Up for yourself takes practice, very similar to practicing how to pitch a baseball, or do a basketball layup, or serve a volleyball. What I think were missing is cat-like reflexes in our brains. Practice the ability to determine your sentiments about a situation in nano-seconds: Thats not Right! Thats Wrong! or Wait no, no wait, F me? no F you! Too many people remain on the Wait no....no wait portion; the situation comes and goes and then its too late to do or say something...and tada, the only recourse is victimhood, self-loathing, possible depression, (...slippery slope), the stuff newstories and the politically correct police are made of. So instead of pacifying conflict, look it straight in the eyes and commit to standing up, whenever that conflict may unfurl unexpectedly. Look forward to this next mini-battle, these tests of mental fortitude, because each and every uncomfortable conflict will bring you closer to mastery of your mind, your surroundings, and ultimately your happiness and pride as an individual.
