"The Atlanta Journal Constitution, looking at 7 similar sized cities with similar sized police departments, did a study that revealed response times for high-priority 911 calls ranged from 9-11 minutes. For calls that dispatch rates as low-priority, average response times can range from 1-3 hours, sometimes even days. The city of Detroit has an average response time of 58 minutes for even high-priority calls. Chicago recently announced that they would no longer even respond to 911 calls in person unless the caller is in imminent danger. The city of Houston claimed in 2008 that their response time was about 5 minutes. This is above average, but still about 3 minutes too late, after the crime has been committed. What this means is that, despite their best efforts and intentions, the police can’t save you from being the victim of criminal activity. If you are threatened with physical harm, such as in an assault, mugging, or home invasion, your best bet for survival is to protect yourself. The best way to protect yourself, your family and your home, is to be armed. Keeping a shotgun or handgun in your home, and training and educating yourself and others on the safe use of the firearm, is your duty, obligation and right as a responsible member of society."
