The Backyard Roundup Saturday, July 26 A new weather element - TopicsExpress

The Backyard Roundup Saturday, July 26 A new weather element was added to our Maritime Summer today. Smoke from the forest fires in the Northwest Territories was being drawn into our region causing hazy conditions. The smell of smoke could be detected in some areas while other locations experienced higher altitude haze. The effects of the smoke were quite noticeable in Bathurst where observations reported smoke from mid morning into the late afternoon. CFB Gagetown had haze in the morning. Charlottetown was sunny in the morning and hazy in the afternoon. Although I didnt notice any smell of smoke here in Pugwash, the sky was partially obscured by haze for most of the day. Haze mixed with cloud was observed at the Halifax Airport. I suspect that the effects of the NWT smoke were more widespread than reported in the Maritimes as it tended to appear like high cloud. Tomorrows forecast calls for more sunshine mixed with cloud. Showers and thundershowers are possible in northern New Brunswick this evening but skies are expected to clear overnight. Showers could develop again by afternoon in the north. Elsewhere in the Maritimes tomorrow will have a variable mix of sun and cloud. For an updated look at the forecast for tomorrow, check our provincial summaries in the morning. Have a pleasant Saturday night. #BackyardWeather (Stephen)
