The Barrie Baycats broke open a 2-2 tie with five runs in the bottom of the fifth inning en route to a 7-3 win over the London Majors in game one of a doubleheader played in Barrie, two of four games played in the Intercounty Baseball League on Saturday afternoon. In game one, Barrie starter Adam Reynolds earned the win, allowing six hits and two earned runs with one walk and three strikeouts over six innings pitched in the seven inning affair. The Baycats trailed the Majors 8-6 in hits on the afternoon, but three London errors compared to just one committed by Barrie assisted the Baycats in earning the win. Jeff Cowan singled and doubled with three RBI and a run scored for Barrie, while Kyle DeGrace also had a pair of hits and a run scored. Jordan Castaldo added a solo home run for the home team, while Brendan Keys singled and scored a run. Ryan Spataro added an RBI and a pair of runs scored while Kevin Atkinson also drove in a run. London starter Mike DeLong took the loss, allowing five hits and seven runs – five earned – with four walks and two strikeouts over four innings pitched. Paul Lytwynec had two hits and two RBI for London, while Cleveland Brownlee singled, doubled and drove in a run. Larry Balkwill and Paul LaMantia each doubled and scored, while Ryan Lapensee and Paul Young both singled, with Young also scoring a run. London Majors 7; Barrie Baycats 2 In game two, the Majors served up a little retribution for the game one defeat, scoring five runs in the third inning to eventually come away with a 7-2 win. The Majors (11-6), are 4 ½ games back of the IBL leading Brantford Red Sox for first place overall. They got quality pitching from starter Andrew Marck who went seven strong innings, allowing just two hits over six shutout innings before heading into the bottom of the seventh where he finished the day with six hits, two earned runs with two walks and three strikeouts. Paul Young had three of the Majors 13 hits with a pair of runs scored, while Paul LaMantia singled and doubled and scored twice. Ryan Lapensee added a pair of hits with a run scored, while Jon Celestino chipped in with an RBI double. Cleveland Brownlee and Parris Austin each singled and scored, while Adwin Springer singled and drove in a pair of runs. Larry Balkwill and Paul Lytwynec each notched a single hit in the win. Barrie starter Nick Fogarty took the loss, allowing eight hits and six earned runs with two walks and two strikeouts over three innings pitched. Three others finished up on the mound for the Baycats, who dropped to 9-8 and remain in fourth place in the IBL standings. Jason Coker had two of Barrie’s six hits in game two, including a solo home run, while Kyle DeGrace singled and also added an RBI. Ryan Spataro and Brandon Dhue each singled, while Jacob Bannerman added a hit and a run scored in the loss.
