The Beatles (The White Album) was released on this day, 46 years ago...Beyond its stylish minimalism, the stark white cover of The Beatles, better known as the White Album, served a symbolic purpose. For the first time, the Beatles couldnt put a picture of themselves on the cover - because they were falling apart as a team. By 1968, John Lennon, Paul McCartney and George Harrison were all working separately as songwriters, each one singing his own songs solo while the rest of the band played backup. Yet the creative tension that went into the White Album resulted in one of the most intense and adventurous rock albums ever made.
