The Benjamin Harrison Bridge will likely remain closed through evening rush hour. Benjamin Harrison Bridge/Route 156 (Prince George/Charles City) – The Virginia Department of Transportation (VDOT) crews have extended this week’s bridge closure until further notice due to a software glitch that is preventing the bridge’s auxiliary drive from functioning properly. The software glitch has locked the brakes on the bridge, which prevents the auxiliary drive from opening the lift span to marine traffic. Crews have been working overnight to resolve the issue. They will remain working on scene until the bridge can reopen. Until further notice, drivers should follow the posted detour or use an alternate route. Local drivers are encouraged to use the posted detour: ‱ Take Jordan Point Road (Route 106/156) south to Route 10 west. Take Interstate 295 north to Route 5 (Exit 22A) back to Jordan Point Road (Route 106/156). Through travelers can use Interstates 295 and 64 or the Jamestown-Scotland Ferry as alternate routes to the Hampton Roads area. Marine traffic will remain unaffected as the lift span remains open during closures.
