The BioBased.US Midwest Supermodified Association (MSA) Supermodifieds wrapped up a busy month of August at Sandusky Speedway on Saturday August 23, 2014 for the Jaycox / Reed Memorial Race. Setting the fast time in MSA qualifying was Kyle Edwards with a 14.449. The heat race winners were Dave Shullick Jr. and Trent Stepens. In the thirty lap MSA Supemodified feature it was the front row of Jon Henes and Danny Shirey bringing the field to the green flag. It was Shirey with the early lead. Henes ran second followed by Jim Paller, Trent Stephens and Mike McVetta the top five. The caution flag waved on lap two for Denny Fisher who slowed and then went pitside, out of the race. On the restart it was Shirey with the lead followed by Henes, Stephens, Paller and Shullick Jr. Stephens advanced to second on lap six and seven laps later the defending MSA champion would be in the lead. The running order was Stephens, Shirey; Shullick Jr., Kyle Edwards and Henes. Shullick Jr. moved into second place on lap sixteen and tried to catch Stephens but it would be Trent Stephens staying out in front to take the checkered flag and add to his points lead. The Ohio Stock feature saw Jim Auxier lead from the pole followed by Bailey Delfosse, Julia Buckles, Jerry Karl and Joe Borczuch. Jerry Karl was on the move and was challenging Auxier for the lead at the halfway point of the twenty lap feature. The caution flag waved on lap ten when Rick Funnell spun. On the restart the front row was Auxier and Jerry Karl with Karl taking the lead. With five laps to go Jerry Karl had opened up nearly a half straightaway lead. Delfosse passed Auxier on lap seventeen for second and gave chase to Jerry Karl for the remaining laps but couldnt gain any ground on the leader as Jerry Karl would win tonights feature along with the heat race and top the field in qualifying. In the Ghostly Manor Thrill Center Modified twenty five lap feature it was Chris Hamilton and Logan Hamilton in the front row wirh C.Hamilton pulling away with the lead followed by L.Hamilton, Joe Shannon, Jason Drew and Stephen Klinect the top five. Klinect got past Drew for fourth on lap four. Klinect passed Shannon on lap six to advance to third and was looking for more. Klinect passed L.Hamilton on lap eight for second and now was ready to pass C. Hamilton. The caution flag was out on lap twelve when Matt Marlowe spun in turn four. On the restart Klinect took the lead followed by Marlowe, Kenny Sharp, C.Hamilton and L.Hamilton. John Bartlome brought out the caution flag on lap twelve for his spin in turn one. On the restart Marlowe dove into turn one to take the lead ahead of Klinect. Marlowe opened up a three car length lead enroute to the checkered flag. The Pizza Brothers Street Stock twenty lap main saw Makala Engle leading from the pole followed by Brian Smith, John Konzelman, Dale Dukeshire and Kenny McKay Jr. Logan Cooper was working his way through the pack and took the lead on lap seven followed by Engle, Cody Rose, Smith and Collin Penn. A series of caution flags on lap ten for Dale Dukeshires spin in turn two and for Mike Bray who lost an engine on the restart. On the restart the battle for the lead was between Rose and Cooper with Rose getting the position. The caution flag waved again on lap thirteen for a tangle involving Dukeshire, Brian Smith and Bob Lusetti in turn three. Rose led the restart and would lead the remainder of the race for the win. The Milan Automotive Hobby Stock fifteen lap feature saw Mike McDonald take the lead on lap three, working his way to the front from his fifth starting spot. McDonald continued to lead at the halfway mark followed by Austin White, Kelly Lilie, Nascar Nestor and Chris Nicastro. McDonald opened up a half straightaway lead over White to go unchallenged for the remaining laps.
