The Bird from Paradise in all his Glory--- Just returned from a lovely solo birding trip to the Piyali island - a birders heaven located at a distance of about 70kms from Kolkata. It was a lovely experience to spend 3 days in the lap of nature, far away from the din and bustle of the city. This was my first birding trip to Piyali with an SLR camera. So i was very much excited about this trip. Although I came to know that the Firethroat had gone, but still I had to go to Piyali as the resort was already booked, and I wanted to take SLR shots of the island birds. Spent the morning and evening hours birding in the forested areas around the resort, and the cuisine consisting of fresh prawns, crabs and estuarine fishes was simply excellent. A boat ride down the Piyali river in evening was another lovely experience. The fresh cool breeze blowing over the river was extremely pleasant. Needless to mention the avifauna of Piyali is also quite rich. Sharing a shot of a mature male Asian Paradise Flycatcher (white phase) It was seen flying around in the wooded areas of the island quite often, but getting a decent close shot of the male bird was indeed a difficult task. It seemed to be shyer than the females and never perched on an open branch even for a few seconds. Location: Piyali island. south 24 Parganas Canon 60D Sigma 150-500mm. 19th April- 2014
