The Blessedness Of Brokenness Blessed [are] the poor in spirit: for theirs is the kingdom of heaven. Matthew 5:3 What a joy to hear and know that there is a blessing to be broken; the power to experience the kingdom of God here on earth is in brokenness. The kingdom of heaven belongs to the broken-those that realizes their spiritual bankruptcy, they can see their insufficiency in the reliance on their gift and calling-theirs scripture says, is the kingdom of heaven. The broken will not wait to get to heaven before experiencing the kingdom of God, it starts with him here on earth, for Jesus in teaching us prayer said, “let your kingdom come and your will be done on earth as it is in heaven”. If the kingdoms of heaven is for the poor in spirit, the coming of His kingdom and His will is for them also. Oh, this is the miracle of brokenness! For us to truly understand the blessing of brokenness, we have to look at brokenness from the one who led all his life exemplifying the virtues of brokenness in deed and in teachings. IT IS THE PATHWAY TO GREATNESS If we as Christian would ever make impact and fulfill destiny we must take Jesus as our model; He showed brokenness in His altitude, words, tone of voice, behavior and relationship. When His disciples, as it is accustom to the un-broken man, sought and fought to know whom the greatest is and who will sit beside him; He pointed them to the pathway to greatness. But Jesus called them [to him], and saith unto them, Ye know that they which are accounted to rule over the Gentiles exercise lordship over them; and their great ones exercise authority upon them. But so shall it not be among you: but whosoever will be great among you, shall be your minister: And whosoever of you will be the chiefest, shall be servant of all. For even the Son of man came not to be ministered unto, but to minister, and to give his life a ransom for many. Mark 10:42-45 Brokenness is the pathway to greatness, Jesus, chided his disciple, His very sons in ministry that they should not exercise Lordship over those God has put in their hands, He did not only say this, but it was his lifestyle that Judas had to point Him out to his enemies because his enemy cannot differentiate the master from the others. It takes brokenness to identify with your people to the point of you being their minister (servant). This is the reason giving His life was not a problem because he has given himself and position first. In the army your superior does not died before you, but Jesus die for you even as your superior. I think Paul has a better explanation of this greatness and brokenness demonstrated by Jesus in Philippians 2:1-8 If [there be] therefore any consolation in Christ, if any comfort of love, if any fellowship of the Spirit, if any bowels and mercies, Fulfill ye my joy, that ye be like minded, having the same love, [being] of one accord, of one mind. [Let] nothing [be done] through strife or vainglory; but in lowliness of mind let each esteem other better than themselves. Look not every man on his own things, but every man also on the things of others. Let this mind be in you, which was also in Christ Jesus: Who, being in the form of God, thought it not robbery to be equal with God: But made himself of no reputation, and took upon him the form of a servant, and was made in the likeness of men: And being found in fashion as a man, he humbled himself, and became obedient unto death, even the death of the cross. Sitting on the alter every service and bearing the highest title does not mean you are great, greatness is in service of God and others not in title or position. Until the mind that was in Christ is in you, you are not great, greatness is when you have come to a point when you stop fighting for reputation, when you start seeking where to serve especially areas people don’t want because they consider it not dignified-then you are consider great. In John 13:15 and 1 Peter 2:21, Jesus says He has left us an example to follow, he lead a life of brokenness, are you following that BROKENNESS GOD’S SPECIAL INTEREST We have seen from previous chapters that God is near to the broken in spirit, He takes special interest in them. For all those [things] hath mine hand made, and all those [things] have been, saith the LORD: but to this [man] will I look, [even] to [him that is] poor and of a contrite spirit, and tremble at my word. Isaiah 66:2 What a joy to know that God’s interest is in me, His focus is directed at me all the time if I am broken, what a relief this brings. Brokenness brings an increases capacity to accomplish that which you cannot explain. Until Jesus broke the five loaves of bread and two fishes, nobody knew that five broken loaves could feed five thousand men excluding women and children, not to mention the twelve basket of the remnant. Until you are broken, you do not know what God can accomplish with you; you will only remain a nice loaf of bread. It was when Gideon’s 300 soldiers broke their pitchers, the lanterns within shone forth and God gave a great victory
