The Blue Songster of the Myterious Hills--- I was very eager to get this lovely bird during my Kakragad trip in 2012, and my bird guide Mr.Yaspal Negi promised me to show this bird. But even after a relentless search, we couldnt get it although Negi-ji tried his best. Naturally i was quite disappointed. On the last day of my stay at kakragad, he showed me this tiny beauty perched inside a thicket on the bank of the Mandakini river. I was very happy to see the bird. But day light was fading, and i cud hardly get any decent shot with my compact camera. Two years later, I got the bird again while returning to Lava from Kolakham after a days birding session with bird guide Joseph Lepcha.. At first it seemed to be very restless and never came out of the dense bushes, although we got some good views. I clicked few shots , but it was of no use as this bird appears blackish in the shade. Finally the bird perched in the open just for a few seconds and fortunately the light was also good. I managed to take two or three shots before it flew away. I had seen its Rufous-bellied cousin several times at different occasions during my last Lava-Sikkim trip , but spotted this species just for once. Species: Small Niltava Rachet Trail, near Lava. West Bengal. May-2014 Canon 60D Please view full-screen.
