The Blues Magazine - 50 Best Albums of 2014 So a day off, a trip in to Kingston to pick up a copy of the latest edition of the magazine, saunter in to Costa grab a nice coffee and have a leaf through to see the 50 best Blues albums of the year as picked by the various journos from the magazine. My first objective on studying the listing, how many do I actually own? A barometer of whether or not my Blues radar is still finely tuned. My response is that I currently own 34 of the aforesaid 50, quite respectable me thinks. The only question remaining, do I buy the other 16 just to complete the set? Of course these end of year best of the year listings are always subjective and indicative of the influences the journalists and publications have. Any glaring omissions as far as I can see, not really, certainly no head scratching on my part although I would have liked to have seen Devon Allman/s Ragged and Dirty but I guess it arrived too late for inclusion? Interested to see a place for Rival Sons, what I certainly considered a full on rock album but no place for a similar album from Virgil and the Accelerators when the album was reviewed in the mag. I would also have liked to have seen Tommy Castro and the Painkillers album listed along with Mitch Laddies live album. I have no doubt Blues fans and the Blues Police will have much to chew over!! Ni do I start collecting the other 16?? Answers on a postcard.
