The#CBI, which is preparing to file a supplementary chargesheetin the Sadiq Jamal Mehtar encounter case, recently examined former special directorof the Intelligence Bureau (IB) Sudhir Kumar in connection with the case. Jamal, a resident of Bhavnagar, was killed in an alleged fake encounter by the Gujarat police near Galaxy Cinema in Naroda area in Ahmedabad on January 13, 2003.Mr Kumar was posted as special director of the IB when the encounter took place. Sources said role of Mr Kumar, who was handling western zone in the IB atthe agency headquarters, was under scanner of the agency for the alert that Jamal was a terrorist and he was on a missionto eliminate VIPs in Gujarat.Investigations by the agency haverevealed that Jamal was allegedlykept in illegal custody by the Gujarat and the Maharashtra police before he was killed in Ahmedabad on January 13, 2003.***‘Why scared if they have done nothing wrong?’The Congress on Tuesday asked why the BJP was “scared” and “worried” that some of the things done by its chief ministers would come home to roost while rejecting Arun Jaitley’s allegation that UPA government was misusing investigating agencies to settle scores with Narendra Modi.“They are probably feeling the heat. Somewhere down the line, they may be feeling that various things done by some of their members, especially what some of their chief ministers have done, may come home to roost. So they are taking some kind of political stance,” party spokesperson Sandip Dikshit said.“It is also followed by what Modi said a day or two days ago that he was not afraid of CBI. If he hasnot done anything wrong, why should he be afraid of CBI and if he has done something, better beafraid,” Mr Dikshit said.
