Firefighter Peter Barresi, of the Sandy Hook Volunteer Fire & Rescue Company will be present and share with those present a call he responded to on December 14th 2012 to a school in the Town of Newtown. This is the first time this presentation has been delivered in Canada. The event to be discussed began about 09:30h on a crisp and sun-filled Friday morning at the Sandy Hook elementary school in Newtown, Connecticut. It started with a loud “pop, pop, pop” noise. It was at that point that 911 calls flooded into the police dispatchers in Newtown, a serene New England community of about 25,000 persons. Peter, who is a volunteer firefighter, was already on his way to school that morning to visit his son’s class room. Little did he know what was going to meet him when he arrived? The first hint that something was wrong was the number of police cars that passed him on the highway as he was enroute to the school. As Peter turned into the driveway his pager went off. This was not Columbine or Virginia Tech; this was the Sandy Hook elementary school. Come hear this story describing the carnage that was enfolding as the yelling of children filled the air as children ran in all directions.
