The California Journal of Poetics is thrilled to announce the launch of our first official issue! We want to extend our eternal gratitude to all of our incredible Issue 1 contributors for gracing our journal with their work and for their endless patience throughout this painstaking process. We would also like to thank our readers for their support and for their enthusiasm about our Issue 1 launch. In addition to reviews, interviews, essays, et al., our first issue includes original, previously unpublished poetry and poetry-related artwork and comics. Our contributors range from the iconic to the up-and-coming—including Kim Addonizio, Ann Lauterbach, D.A. Powell, Nick Flynn, Bianca Stone, David Tomas Martinez, Robert Pinsky, Mel Chin, Charles Jones, and Valzhyna Mort. Each adds his or her own brand of magic to our virtual pages. And, of course, we’ve included the 3rd Annual Blurby Awards, in recognition of some of the most remarkable poetry book blurbs that appeared in 2013! As has always been our focus, we strive to inspire conversations about poetics. We encourage our readers and contributors alike to share and comment thoughtfully on the pieces that speak to them or move them or ruffle their feathers in some way. Let’s get the dialogue going!
