The Changing Scenes of Life It is said that life does not give - TopicsExpress

The Changing Scenes of Life It is said that life does not give you what you deserve but only what you fight for. This assertion is very true in many respects, yet when men are ready and willing to fight for whatever they desire, they dont know how, where, what, when and which about their intended maneuvers. This is true for every person whether for spiritual purposes or natural. For this reason when a Christian is blessed with the all rich experience of the leading of the Holy Spirit or divine guidance, it is such an indispensable advantage. The Spirit of God makes the people who trust and depend on Him breath the air of reliefs even when faced with the hardest bottleneck. Elijah was a great man of God yet just as the bible says he was a man just as we are, he encountered life just like any individual child of God would. When idolatry reached the crescendo peak in Samaria God released him on the scene out of obscurity to defend the faith in the true God of Israel. He first confrontation with Ahab the king and his wife Jezebel was the prophecy of famine in the land. The truth was that Elijah was not spared the brunt of his own prophecy, for the famine affected him just like any average Joe in Samaria at the time. Such is life, even the righteous sometime get broke and their fridges become empty. Does that mean God had left or did not care about his prophet? No!. In the heat of the famine the Lord provided for him: Elijah was instructed to lodge by the creek at Cherith from which he drank and ate the food God commanded the ravens to bring to him. Elijah obeyed. Life was quite pleasant because not many people in Samaria had access to drinking water and food at the time. After a while the creek dried up hence there no water for him if even the birds brought him food. God then spoke to Elijah to go to the most usual places of all, Zarephath in Sidon and to a widow of all people to supply him food. The region of Sidon was the melting pot of Baal worship and Zarephath was the headquarters of Baal worship, the very hometown of Jezebel where her father was both the chief Baal prophet and the king. The lesson here is that it was where God led him to and the chosen place for his nourishment. Sometimes it is not what you desire or deserve but the only place the Lord has provided until the famine is over. Life changes, situation changes, people do change but God does not change. He is ever merciful as He has always been despite the situation or the place, that fact is that the Lord Himself had provided; that the most important thing. God says His ways are not our ways, His wisdom is unfathomable and His thoughts far outweighs the thoughts of mere men. One lesson is that at the time Elijah went to Zarephath, he did not only need nourishment and a place to lodge but also security because Ahab and Jezebel were searching for him for causing economic losses to the state of Samaria. God outwitted Elijahs assailants because in their wildest dreams, they never thought Elijah could be taking refuge in the home of a Baal worshipper who was a widow right under the nose of chief Baal prophet who was also Jezebals father. Baby Jesus had to be hidden in Egypt to prevent his assailants from catching up on Him. Sometimes many Christians loose their blessings because they have wrong priorities and misplaced expectations because they do not listen to the voice of God. Sometime they find it too difficult to leave their comfort zones hence loose the leading of the Holy Spirit. Sometimes we become too wise just to be foolish at the long run. From Zarephath Elijah staged the final confrontation with Baal prophets on mount Carmel. The Lord brought the greatest success of his ministry but that victory initiated the next bout of troubles from the enemy. Jezebel chased him to the extent that the great prophet became so depressed and contemplated death. Where was God then? He was still the ever merciful, ever loving and ever gracious Father. He did not change. Situation changed but the God was the same. The best option in moments such as these is to still believe He cares and will provide; then call upon. He will definitely show up for you. Keep on keeping on. It may not be easy but His grace is always sufficient for us. Amen
