The Chillicothe Paints defeated the Richmond RiverRats 6-3 on Tuesday night. Chillicothe was propelled to victory behind the dominant pitching performance of Jack Peck, who went 5 innings with 4 hits, 2 walks, and 4 strikeouts. The RiverRats returned home after a 4 game road trip looking for a win to move them closer to .500 on the season. However, tonight’s game proved anything but that. Patrick Van Daalwyk took the mound for the RiverRats, but his night got off to a rough start. Giving up 2 runs in the 1st inning, followed by 1 in the 2nd, 2 in the 3rd, and 1 in the 4th, Van Daalwyk lasted only 3.1 innings. His toughest start of the season ended with 6 hits, 6 runs, 1 walk, and 2 walks. The bullpen came through for the RiverRats to keep them within striking distance with the performances of Luke McGee and Logan Tabor providing 5.2 innings of 1 hit and 5 strikeout baseball. McGee and Tabor’s efforts fell short as the Richmond bats failed to produce until the 8th inning. With only 4 hits entering the 8th frame, Richmond started to mount a comeback with Jacob Bosiokovic and Jordan Nieman both plating runners. Heading into the bottom of the 9th, Robbie Stein’s single looked to spark a rally with his RBI single, but it was too little too late for the RiverRats. Jason Blum was the leading batter for the Rats, going 3-5. Robbie Stein and Trevor Kimm produced two hits apiece. The individual efforts will help statistics with the All-Star Game voting occurring this week, but Richmond will need to come together to win games to get them back in the playoff hunt. With starting pitchers Tyler Miller and Tyler Iago released due to injuries along with several other players, Richmond will be looking for replacements to bring a spark to the rotation and starting lineup. Richmond fell to 13-18 on the season, while Chillicothe improved to 18-13. The two teams will meet up on Wednesday to finish their series before the Independence Day game. Richmond will host Lorain County Thursday with a first pitch set for 4:05.
