The Climate March is hiring a state coordinator for Nebraska. Pays - TopicsExpress

The Climate March is hiring a state coordinator for Nebraska. Pays $3,000/month for May-July. Nebraska friends, please help spread the word. We need a great organizer for the critical pipeline stretch of the March. Following is a job description: Job Responsibilities of State Coordinators Route. The route should be driven and viewed carefully to determine any discrepancies between GoogleMaps and reality, access by support vehicles and marchers, and for efficiency. Make sure there are no impassable spots, and see if there might be better options than what weve laid out. When identifying ideal route, consider distance, traffic, visibility, safety, scenery, shade, access to amenities, walking surface, etc. When possible, route should engage diverse cultural and socio-economic populations - those impacted most by climate change, as well as those most responsible for contributing to it. Also, distance between camps should ideally be 14-15 miles/day, though we understand there may be days that must be longer or shorter. Remember that a significant change in elevation reduces the distance marchers are able to comfortably cover in a day. Campsites. Campsites should accommodate up to 250 people, and possibly 100 tents. Campsites also should be able to accommodate up to12 vehicles. We cannot afford to pay for campsites, except in rare occasions. We will leave campsites better than we found them. Some possibilities include public parks, farms, private land, BLM land, etc. Rallies. Locate rally sites in key communities and where we cross the Keystone pipeline. Make sure site has shade and is accessible. Keep it to an hour or so. Line up speakers from local partners, and include 2 - 3 marchers and some music. Partners. Invite as many organizations into helping to plan and implement as many aspects of the March as possible. Rest Days. Scheduling rest days (roughly one per week) in areas of natural beauty or urban centers is preferable. If possible, rest days are a great opportunity for fun, and to network with local organizations, musicians, artists, schools to show appreciation for the work the marchers do and vis-versa. It would be great to provide opportunities for marchers to visit local sites of unique cultural and environmental beauty, too. Marcher in the Home. Not only does it give marchers a great break from sleeping on the ground every night, but setting up opportunities for marchers to stay in peoples homes is excellent outreach as well. This should be organized through a network of churches or other organizations that can screen prospective housing offers, to eliminate the risk of a host who might have the wrong intent. Media/Publicity. Work with our Communications Director to contact possible press opportunities. Ask our local coalition partners to help get the word out, and invite as many as are able to march for all or part of the state (or beyond, of course). Food. Contact local farmers and food vendors along the route, especially at the beginning of the state and in areas of low population density, and let them know of our interest in buying food from them. In keeping with our principles of sustainability, we prefer to buy food that is locally grown, organic and healthy. We appreciate any and all donations, too, of course, as we will operate on a very tight budget. Education. We invite the general public, our partners, and local media to our camp at the end of the day, to experience the traveling exposition of sustainability and renewable energy that we showcase. Also, marchers and some of our visiting expert guests are eager to present to local schools, churches, civic groups, business groups and government officials. As you are able, provide to our Education Director a list of such prospects along the route with demographic information. Fundraising. Identify potential donors and work with the Fundraising Director on soliciting their support. Also, organize house parties on as many days as possible, for marchers to attend, talk about climate change and why they are marching, and accept donations.
