The Comeback is one of the most fascinating and multi-faceted social commentaries on the state of pop culture today (and quite frankly millennial culture for that matter)! The irony of all ironies: the more we broadcast ourselves through reality tv shows, instagram, facebook, twitter, in an attempt to create more of a connection with the world, we completely lose sight of some of the most important relationships in our lives, the ones with our loved ones (like were seeing with Vals relationship with her hubby and MIckey) and MOST importantly we lose our relationship with ourselves! We try to project this very specific 1-dimensional version of ourselves to the world and in the process completely lose sight of who we are and what we are. And then it just becomes this vicious cycle of unreality where we create this persona that we think we are and then constantly try to chase that projection with more and more delusion! The main point here: vapid narcissism that is all too prevalent in our society is a shiny yet destructive force and if indulged to the extent that the Valerie Cherishs of the world do, will leave you with nothing but your most valuable of relationships destroyed and a claim to fame that is rooted in complete and utter insignificance!
