The Connection Between Celiac Disease and Gut Bacteria mylifewithfoodallergies/index/connection-celiac-disease-gut-bacteria/ One of the most fascinating things about celiac disease, in my opinion, is the fact that it is a condition that is not only genetic, but also heavily influenced by external and environmental factors. Though we are genetically predisposed to have celiac disease, environmental factors can trigger the onset of the gene. Recently, I’ve been analyzing these types of influences; they can range from car accidents to pregnancies, to even the types of microbes that reside in our gut! Today, I want to focus on a study conducted by several researchers, including Dr. Peter Green, the founder of the Columbia University Celiac Disease Center (and one of my favorite books, Celiac Disease: A Hidden Epidemic), that was published in the American Journal of Epidemiology.
