The Conservative government and the previous Liberal government worked together to take $57 billion from the EI fund and use it for their own purposes. Today I tabled an important Private Members Bill that would put a fence around Canadians Employment Insurance Fund. That money belonged to workers and employers, not the government. We shouldnt need a law to stop the government from taking it, but Liberals and Conservatives have shown Canadians that we do. As a result of this theft, fewer people are qualifying for less benefits with increased wait times. Thats not acceptable. An NDP government will partner with workers and businesses to create an EI program that works for the unemployed and is there when they need it.
