The Contenders Red Bull verses XS Energy Drinks Red Bull & XS Energy - they promise loads of energy and great health, but do the ingredients really match the market spin? I slugged a few of these puppies and I’ll tell you what I think in a simple What, Who, How, How Much, When and Where format. Chug Test Comparison RED BULL What:Red Bull. Liquid. Goes into your mouth. Top selling energy drink in the USA. Who: Marketed mostly to active folks of the accident prone and jumping-out-of-airplanes variety. How: One flavor. Available in sugar-free, too. Comes in a slim silver can. No frills packaging. How Much: About $2.35 per can and don’t forget the tax. How Many: Unless you want to attempt a first-hand experience at a heart attack,I wouldn’t drink any more than two of these babies. When: I wouldn’t drink this before bedtime with Bonzo. Where: In grocery stores and convenience stores. XS ENERGY What:XS Energy. Liquid. Pour this into your head. Last I heard, this was the #2 selling (quantity-wise) energy drink in the USA. The reason why relatively few people have heard of this drink is that it is only available through a sales rep associated with the Quixtar marketing group. Who: Marketed mostly to people who like to look cool drinking a skateboarder’s drink, but actually wanna get something healthy from it, too. How: Comes in a slim silver can the same size as Red Bull, but the decorations rock! Comes in a million flavors including root beer – which really tastes like root beer! Some flavors available as syrup for food vendors. All of these are sugar-free and many are carb-free. How Much: About $2.50 per can (including shipping) How Many: I’ve heard of folks drinking up to six of these at one time. Sounds like all those vitamins would give your kidneys a workout. When: Drinking one at night an hour or two before bedtime should be okay. Some of these have a little bit of caffeine. Some available as caffeine-free – although there is hardly any caffeine to begin with anyway. Where: Bought by the case (of 12) only through a Quixtar representative and shipped straight to your door. Contact me to get in touch with a rep. What It Did To Me RED BULL Look at Picture #2. Need I say more? Afterwards my friend Claes and I felt like we needed to check into detox. XS ENERGY I felt just like Arnie in Picture #3. This was a really pleasant surprise. No buzz. No slam. No high. No fall. For lack of any better words to describe this: I didn’t feel jazzed up at all, but within a minute or two after drinking this I felt like I was really “there”. It’s kind of like when you drive down a long boring straight highway, and then suddenly something of interest appears that piques your attention. The effect is subtle, but it really makes all the difference. This is something that only natural ingredients can do. I read up on this drink and found some of its ingredients have been derived from natural adaptogenic herbs, which, according to Wikipedia, “are unique from other substances in their ability to balance endocrine hormones and the immune system, and they help the body to maintain optimal homeostasis.” Basically, it’s all good stuff. Thumbs up because I sure felt it. What You Get When You Chug See Picture #4 for a rundown on Nutrition Facts. Red Bull basically is working with loads of sugar and loads of caffeine (interestingly, not shown on the label – see Picture #4). It goes without saying that neither raw sugar nor caffeine is good for anyone in larger quantities and for long-term consumption. XS Energy drinks outshine the Bull by far through the simple philosophy of leveraging ancient wisdom with modern science. It is my understanding that the XS Energy drink series, in its original form, was developed by scientists who studied natural herbs extensively, and were able to identify a perfect balance of herbal properties which they were then able to develop into a drink form. The other big leveraging factor to XS Energy is the presence of 4900% of the US RDA for vitamin B12. Why so much B12? The scoop from the nerds: * Wikipedia: “The human physiology … is complex, and therefore is prone to mishaps leading to vitamin B12 deficiency…” * LifeScript: “Vitamin B12, also known as cobalamin, is one of the essential nutrients that our body’s need daily and proper intake is vital to our ability to maintain good health. Vitamin B12 is required by the body to maintain healthy nerve cells and red blood cells, and is also needed to make DNA, the genetic material in all cells. B12 … help[s] the body convert carbohydrates into glucose (sugar) which is a primary energy source for the body.” Essentially, drinking 4900% of the US RDA for vitamin B12 simulates a trip to the doctor and getting a vitamin shot. Thing is: this particular shot only costs about $2.50, can be taken as a drink in many tasty flavors, and it sure beats a trip to the doctor for a vitamin shot which can easily cost upwards of $200 or more. And The Winner Is… Red Bull loads you up with a shot of caffeine and tops it off with sugar. Sure, it’ll get you up. But it will laugh at you later when you fall flat on your hiney. The XS Energy drink doesn’t take you for a rodeo ride like the Bull. More like: it brings you home. You are definitely in attendance – a solid and healthy sense of well being. It is derived from natural herb compounds that work in harmony with your body to reduce stress and heighten your attention. Not at all a kick-your-butt feeling – but in slow-motion. The answer is clear: XS Energy wins the game all around with a solid in-the-house feeling, backed by loads of vitamins and our dear Mother Nature’s herbs. Chug some
