The Coppin Cup, Bath This is definitely one for BMX the diary. The Coppin Cup will take place on the 21st & 22nd of September at the revamped Bath BMX Track. For those who don’t know why the Coppin Cup has been created it is in memory of Mark Coppin who sadly passed away last year. Mark was a great character in BMX and I will remember him for his good banter at Peterborough National after party as he joined in with the dance off. Claire Coppin wife of Mark wanted to say a few things to the BMX community: “We wanted to extend a massive thank you to the BMX community for the kindness we have experienced as a family throughout this difficult year. The shock of losing Mark so suddenly was truly eased by the messages of comfort we received and by the many of you that travelled, ofteMark Coppinn long distances in difficult weather conditions to be with us at Mark’s Funeral. The week before Mark died, we went for a meal at the Stacks - Mark and I were complaining that it was all Jason and Sharon’s fault that we got into BMX racing in the first place. “We have never got any time or money now and it’s all your fault Jas.” grumbled Mark over a few Strongbow’s. The truth of the matter is we have got so much pleasure out of racing. Seeing Josh and Jared grow as people through a sport they love has and continues to be a source of pride and enjoyment. There are just too many people that have offered help and support in the past year for us to be able to thank you all individually however I must make a couple of special mentions. To the Moore Family – thanks for keeping us smiling when it has been tough to look on the bright side. To Jason, Sharon, Ryan and Lauren Stack + Monty who have all been there for us 24-7 whether it is BMX training (Thanks Ryan J), racing, or just someone to talk too. You have made the boys feel like part of the family. We feel privileged that so many people have pulled together to put on this meeting in Mark’s memory and to those who have come to ride in his honor. We hope that during the meeting you will all remember the fun times - I am sure his dancing at Peterborough after the last National 2012 will be an indelible memory for many of you and I know it is not a moment Josh will forget in a hurry! Finally, a special thank you to Damian Mead for keeping in touch about all the arrangements and the lovely Martin Baxter for the special race plates. Racing Racing will take place on the Sunday with practice on Saturday. Practice on Saturday will be done in blocks starting at 3pm. Pre registration is up and running, you can book in here! Age groups are, Mixed 6 under Girls - 7-9, 10-12, 13-14 and 15+ Championship Ladies. Boys - 7-8, 9-10, 11-12, 13-14, 15-16, 17+ Elite Payback. Cruisers - 16 under mixed, 17-29 ladies, 30+ ladies (These may be mixed to make full gate) and 17+ super cruiser pay back Camping Camping is for Motorhomes and Caravans as it is on hard standing. Camping opens at 12noon Saturday (limited spaces so book early). Showers will be available through maned times over the weekend. TrophyTrophies Trophies are hand made for 1st place by Brian Curtis, and a huge handmade one for the Coppin Cup. The Coppin Cup is a golden ticket race that will be drawn by Claire Coppin on the day. Top 3 in each age group will receive a trophy. Bar It wouldn’t be a race Somerset without a Cider Bar. The bar is a local brewing company who will be there all weekend. Raffle Raffle prizes include a Curtis Manaton race shirt that has been signed by the Elite riders. Goodies donated by ultimate BMX, Green Machine. There will also be other bits like bike cleaning products etc. Liam Phillips has also donated some race kit that will be auctioned off with all money going to Make A Wish Charity.
