The DPT’s petition to the court states that, “If DPT is found guilty of robbing the country, it cannot and should not continue representing our people in the Parliament and should be dissolved...” We are all reminded of how, on occasion, the DPT threatened to resign en bloc when situations didn’t suit its leadership interests. Since we are all about idioms here, let us use another one for these instances of the DPT ‘holding the country to ransom’! The threats of desertion by the DPT are detrimental to the growth of Bhutan and to the very workings and spirit of democracy. It is interesting to note that 2 of the 15 members sitting in opposition in parliament have not signed the petition against Dasho Benji and are rumored to have deliberately ignored calls to attend meetings regarding this case... and are not expected to partake of these proceedings for their own reasons.
