The Daring Dicey Chapter Daughter of the American Revolution Invites the Public to attend their monthly meeting on Sunday August 11, 2013 at 2:00 pm at the Lamar County Health Department Community Room, 300 Springfield Road, Vernon, Alabama. Our guest speaker will be Janis Suggs Dyson of Houston, Ms. Janis is an accomplished artist, author, and teacher. As a granddaughter of W. D. Suggs, who owned Suggs Pottery, with the last of three and largest located in Smithville, Ms, she knew there was no one else who could or would write the history of her Grandfathers business and who better than her since she had the ledgers . It was her pleasure and desire to pin the history. The title of her book is TURNING CLAY INTO HISTORY – The Story of W. D. Suggs Pottery. He employed many people 1900 through 1956 and taught many people the pottery business. A once thriving business is today only memories in the mind of this generation. Mrs. Dyson has preserved these memories by writing this book and will have books available for signing and purchase. She will be bringing along pieces of his works for viewing If you have pieces please check them for the W. D. Suggs emblem. You may have something more valuable than you realize. In my small collection I have found only one piece made by W. D. Suggs- a large churn. My other pieces are not identified as to the maker. If you have pieces bring them along to show and tell at the meeting. Kawatha “Kay” Koonce Daring Dicey Chapter ASDAR
