The Department of Folklore and Ethnomusicology at Indiana University invites applications for a tenured Associate or Full Professor in Folklore, to begin in the fall of 2014. We welcome applicants who have well-established research and teaching records and are currently engaged in scholarship central to the discipline of folklore. We are especially interested in scholars who are prepared to teach foundational concepts and theories of the discipline to graduate and undergraduate students and who relate their ethnographic research to broader regional concerns, theoretical problems, and disciplinary histories. Our preference is for candidates with ethnographic, theoretical, and teaching concentrations in narrative and performance with an area focus in the UK/Ireland. Applicants must show evidence of a continuing research agenda and a demonstrated commitment to excellence in teaching. A PhD in Folklore or a related field is required. The Department of Folklore and Ethnomusicology is an innovative, interdisciplinary program that focuses on expressive culture with a broad international focus. The Department offers BA, MA, and PhD degrees and has a full-time teaching faculty of 15 folklorists and ethnomusicologists, with special strengths in the verbal, musical, and material arts.
