The Desert Hot Springs senior planner, Rich Malacoff, has commissioned a “Draft Initial Study and Negative Declaration” on the building of a private diesel truck refueling site by Ho Ho Ho Express Trucking, of Houston, Texas. It calls for a 20,000 gallon above ground storage tank, on Little Morongo Rd., just south of Dillon Rd. The study cites up to 60 trucks a week refueling, that would mean increased wear on roads, increased traffic, and possibly the need of of a traffic light at Little Morongo and Dillon roads. We see little, if any benefit for the city, and much expense. The city cannot afford to accommodate one private company that offers no jobs and no sales tax for the city to offset those expenses. We object to the placement of fuel tanks a couple of hundred feet from a major spur of the San Andreas fault, (Banning Fault) and note the site sits on or adjacent to the Mission Creek wash. We question how the storage tank will get filled. Will diesel be trucked in, or is there and underground pipeline involved? We encourage speakers to request the city to turn down the project for financial and environmental reasons. If anyone wants to ask the city who paid for the study, or why Mr. Malacoff approves of this project, please do.
